The sudden redness on the face and neck can be simply called skin flushing and can be caused due to different reasons. In most cases, skin flushing is a normal reaction of the body when it is experiencing strong emotions or is exposed to the sun. However, sometimes it can also be associated with medical conditions like menopause and rosacea. Rosacea is a condition where there is redness of the face due to swelling in the blood vessels that lie just under the skin.
Whatever the cause of your facial redness, here are some simple home treatments that are both gentle and effective.
Maintain a Balanced Diet
While you are trying to get rid of redness on face, you should be getting a healthy well-balanced diet. Make sure you are feeding your skin vitamins A, B, C and especially E. Also include your minerals, such as iron, zinc, and magnesium. Eat lots of carrots, tomatoes, apples, oranges, bananas, spinach and watermelon.
Cold Compress
It’s often used as a first aid procedure for injuries such as bumps in the head or bruises due to impact. It also works for facial flushing as it helps cool down the skin and tone down swelling. Take a washcloth and run it under cool water and place it on your skin. You can also put a wet washcloth in the fridge for a few minutes and lay it on your face.
Cucumber masks
Cucumber has anti-inflammatory and cooling properties. Using cucumber slices or juice can soothe the skin and help fade red spots. It also contains high levels of vitamin C that can help redness. Chill a cucumber in the fridge. Peel it and slice it into thin slices. Lay back and put the slices directly on the red places. Lay quietly for up to 20 minutes. Try not to rub your face with cucumber or the redness may get worse.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil moisturizes your skin and helps in eliminating any dryness and tightness, thus reducing the redness. Apply coconut oil to the red areas of your face and neck and massage well. Do this before going to bed. Leave it overnight.
Aloe Vera
You can also use aloe Vera to get rid of face redness naturally. Aloe Vera has a healing effect on the skin and contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation, irritation and dry skin.
Apple cider vinegar
You can use raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) to help reduce itchiness and redness on your face. The acidic properties of ACV help to disinfect the skin from germs that can cause inflammation and redness. The low pH level of vinegar also aids in reducing skin itchiness and irritation.
Wash your face 1-2 times a day
Use warm water: both hot and cold water can cause your skin to dry out. If you wash it the wrong way, you can make your skin more irritated and redder. You should wash with a sensitive cleanser, one without fragrance, and avoid any that contain alcohol or other drying agents.
Ask your doctor about oral prescription
Prescription medications reduce skin inflammation and can be prescribed if none of the redness remedies or natural treatments work for you. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, have other medical conditions, or take other medications before starting new medications.
