Have you ever felt frightened or intimidated when out walking alone?
Have you ever wondered what you should do if approached by an attacker?
Have you ever worried about becoming yet another home invasion statistic?
The sad reality is that we live in an increasingly violent society in which the fear of crime is ever-present.
Personal safety has become an issue of importance for everyone, but especially for women.
We will share some of tips and techniques for self-defense for you in the hopes that they will provide you with the means to defend yourself.
1. Prepare yourself mentally
Mental preparation is the first step to actually accepting the possibility of a violent attack to happen to you. The mental preparation will get you almost half-way ahead of the crowd.
2. Hit the eyes
When you feel like someone's about to attack you; making a dash towards you, shouting or holding a weapon, NEVER wait. Go straight for the attacker's eyes. Use open palms, both if possible, with fingers directed towards the eyes. Using the same position of your palms (and at the same time) you can hit or strongly push away the nose or chin with the heel of your hand.
3. Hit the nose
Use a hammer strike motion by using the heel of your hand while you’re clinching your fist. It will become difficult and then impossible to breathe through the nose. Use this action in any dangerous situation. Don't be afraid to hurt your attacker. It's your safety or theirs.
4. Hit the throat
With an opened palm, use your hand and push your fingers inside the throat. Do these while pushing your attacker away. It will give you a chance to take following actions.
5. Kick to Groin
When something dangerous comes close to you and attacking from front of you, the front kick to the groin is a powerful move to vulnerable spot that can help you go on the offensive that gives you another opportunity to hit another, painful point.
6. Kick to knee
If the person is close to your body, turn your head quickly to get a good view of where to strike and act immediately. Use your foot with a horizontal stomping kick directly to the knee, Act as soon as you sense a threat or the attack begins.
7. Use common objects
Scan your surrounding for objects that may be able to help during attack. Using a chair, rubbish bin, or even your 5-inch heels can all do some serious damage. Don't hesitate to grab what you can. Whether it's your keys or phone, try to buy yourself more time to run away or get help. Never hesitate.
Weak parts of the human body are:
Eyes
Throat
Ears (misbalances the person)
Jaw
Groin (for men)
Knees
An easy start is to take some self-defense course or seminar, or at least watch some videos. You need to train both the body and mind. Visualize your self-defense techniques, practice them with a friend or partner (if you don’t attend training courses).
